Get answers from the IRS — without the runaround.

Most IRS letters are routine. Read the notice number (top right corner), gather your prior return, then follow the path below. We'll show you exactly what to do and where to go.

Step 1 — Identify your notice

Every IRS notice has a CP or LTR number in the top right corner. Look it up before you call. Most CP notices are math corrections, balance reminders, or identity-verification requests — not audits.

Step 2 — Pull your transcript

Your IRS account transcript is the source of truth for what the IRS has on file. Request it free through your IRS online account or via Form 4506-T. Wage & Income transcripts show every W-2 and 1099 the IRS received under your SSN.

Step 3 — Respond by the deadline

Every notice has a response window — usually 30 or 60 days. Missing it can convert a simple letter into a lien or levy. If you're unsure, call us before you reply.
